Esthetic Surgery (Cosmetic Surgery)

Is a sub-branch in plastic surgery. Esthetic (or Cosmetic) surgery is interested in operations and interventions performed in order to enable the body image to become more beautiful and perfect. This is an esthetic problem rather than a medical problem. In the media, the news on esthetic aspect of plastic surgery is more involved and perhaps this is why the public perceives the plastic surgeons as only the people who perform plastic surgery. In fact, plastic surgeons are more likely to perform repairement surgery (reconstructive surgery) in clinics.

All plastic surgeons also take esthetic surgery educations during their specialty educations and they are the only surgeons who are authorized to perform these operations. Esthetic surgery requires a long period of education and experience. In esthetic surgery, not only the esthetic but also medical problems are sometimes solved. For example, the surgical correction of an obese body or breasts (gigantomastia) grown in gigantic sizes solves both medical and esthetic problems together. Besides the esthetic correction of an organ, its function is also extremely important. For example: In esthetic nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) the shape and inspiration problems shall be solved together.
